subject: Dilli Khas Brunch At Kangan Restaurant Mumbai [print this page]

Welcome all foodies at Kangan restaurant Mumbai. Just come our new event Dilli khas brunch at Kangan Restaurant Mumbai to enjoy your favourite dishes. Kangan is an Indian restaurant located on the 18th floor of the Westin Mumbai Garden City. Great dinning place with highway view. Fantastic food and service, friendly waiters every thing is good here the Westin Mumbai city. Only if you are a Delhiite or have had a taste of Dilli Ka Khana, would know why we miss it so much here in Mumbai.

So, just when I was about embark upon another a trip down the Delhi errmemory lane gorging upon sumptuous food, I came across the Dilli Khaas food festival at Kangan, a fine dining restaurant in Mumbai. If you too are one like me who craves for Delhi delicacies here in Mumbai, this is one event you cant miss.

But what to expect from Dilli Khaas? Team BuzzinTown helps you with our preview cum review.

Executed under the guidance of Westin Mumbais Executive Chef Ajay Chopra (you saw him in Master Chef India), Dilli Khaas is offered as ala-carte as well as in a set menu. So, looking at the menu, which you can easily mistake for a wedding card, we made our picks. Befor starting to say about food I want to say Kangan restaurant is very popular restaurant in Mumbai and continuously events are happening there.

Starters: We began our Dilli darshan with Chandni Chowk Ki Garam Aloo Tikki. Fingers crossed! And yay! It was just the way they do it in Delhi with a filling (Peethi) of spiced moong daal served with gur (jaggery)- amchoor (dry mango powder) saunth (sauce) and coriander chutney. Paneer - Mattar (peas) tikki was another variation that we tried, but preferred the potato variant. Achari Hari Gobhi could have tasted better if it was crispier and not watery. From the non-veg menu we recommend Methi Murgh Tikka, which was juicy and tender chicken dish with a strong flavor of fenugreek and ginger. Tali Machchli and Seekh-e-Sikander, which is lamb mince spiced with sweetened milk, mint and ginger is another starter you cant miss.

Main Course: A non-veg lover cant miss the Dilli Ka Saag Gosht, which is more of an assembled dish prepared by mixing mutton preparation, spinach and spices at Kangan restaurant. Shahi Murgh Korma, which is flavored with dried rose petals is another must-try non-vegetarian dish. From the veg lot, Kangans Dal Makhni is a sure shot hit! Youll remember one that you had at Delhis Gulati Restaurant at Pandara Road Delhi. Chef shared the secret behind the yummy dal. It was boiled in milk rather than adding cream at the end of preparation.

Other veg main-course dishes that we liked were Khumbh Hara Dhania, which was a spicy mushroom preparation done in yogurt and heavy dose of kadai masala. Firdausi Paneer Qorma was definitely a break from the kadai paneer and shahi paneer but was really rich thanks to the presence of sandalwood powder and cashew nuts in the gravy. Other dishes worth a try at Dilli Khaas are Kathal Ki Sabzee, Lasuni Dal Palak, Aaloo Lajawab, Maahi-e-Aab (fresh river sole in tomato and yogurt curry) and Murgh Shaan e Dilli. This food festival event will going on till 9 September 2012 at Kangan Restaurant.

Breads: No, they are not serving oil dripping parathas akin to Delhis parathe wali gali, but Delhi Khaas bread basket includes Bharwan Kulcha, Tandoori Roti, Lachchedar Naan, Missi Roti and Khameeri Roti. Our personal favourite was khameeri roti, which was made with fermented wheat flour.

Dessert: A Foodie's sojourn in Delhi cannot end without some sweet nothings. Dilli Khaas has a range of desserts including Kulfi Faluda, Angoori Rasmalai (it was a little dry) and Sheer Kurma (perfect!). Whatever the menu you experienced at Delhi restaurants all things you will be getting here.

Some of the dishes mentioned above are not served in the set menu, you can always have them Ala carte. Non-Veg Set menu which costs you Rs.2000 plus taxes and Veg priced at Rs.1800 plus taxes might sound like a bomb but is any day lesser than what youll spend in a trip to Delhi. So, if you are in mood of celebration of a khaas occasion, Dilli Khaas is for you!
