subject: San Francisco 49ers Tickets - Niners Are Fine Without Crabtree [print this page]

Over the last couple months, Michael Crabtree has only caused headaches for the higher-ups within the San Francisco 49ers. 2009 is supposed to be Crabtree's blowout rookie season with the 49ers, as he was selected as San Francisco's first-round pick (10th overall) in the '09 draft, but his months-long holdout for more money is getting more and more soured by the minute, and in the meantime San Francisco is doing something it hasn't done in at least a little while - win games. The Niners ended last season with a 7-9 record, missing the playoffs for the sixth straight year in a row, but it already looks like things have turned around for the 49ers this year, as the team has triumphed over the '08 Super Bowl contenders the Arizona Cardinals as well as the Seattle Seahawks to start this season at a surprising 2-0 record.

While Michael Crabtree is still watching 49ers games from home as he continues what is now the longest holdout in franchise history, new head coach Mike Singletary and the Niners continue on their winning streak, diminishing the need for Crabtree with every victory. Crabtree, a standout wide receiver from Texas Tech, was selected as the team's first draft pick of 2009 in order to help restore the 49ers' offense, but Crabtree himself was expecting to get drafted at No. 5, hoping to get more contract money in the process. The $20 million contract the 49ers offered Crabtree was turned down by the player and his agent Eugene Parker, who are reportedly asking for something close to $40 million before they'll end Crabtree's holdout, but now that San Francisco is winning without the help of the supposed super-rookie Michael Crabtree, it's certainly not helping his case.

The 49ers have until Nov. 17 to sign Crabtree if he's going to play this season, and the next point that he can be traded is on March 5, 2010-the start of the '10 trading period. If he's not signed and then traded, Crabtree could re-enter the 2010 NFL Draft, hoping to score a higher pick than this year. While he's said to be under the guidance of former NFL heavyweight Deion Sanders, Texas State Sen. Royce West and his cousin David Wells, Michael Crabtree is being urged by several other spectators and advisors to take the (now decreasing) deal the 49ers have given him.

In the meantime, running back Frank Gore has helped the Niners not to miss Crabtree during his absence, as Gore's outstanding performances so far this season (207 yards rushing in the Seahawks game) have helped San Francisco post a winning record and draw fans with San Francisco 49ers tickets to games. Michael Crabtree still has a long way to go before (and if) he sees playing time with the 49ers this season as he's not practicing with the team at all currently, but in the meantime Niners fans can catch Sean Hill, Frank Gore and the rest of the San Francisco 49ers in action with tickets to an upcoming game, available now and always online.
