subject: Use Your Garden Into The Night [print this page]

When the summer months come around, one of the most delightful things is to be able to sit outside and enjoy the warm and light evenings with friends. There are few things better than watching the sun go down on a balmy evening, whilst firing up the BBQ, to have some great al fresco dining. Of course, the weather in many countries rarely behaves the way that you want it and the result is often a few snatched hours where you desperately flit between the kitchen and the back garden trying to get the last few minutes of evening sunshine whilst you still can. But there is no reason why you cannot enjoy this blissful and relaxing al fresco dining experience for much of the year. With the advent of patio heaters and high quality lighting, you can spend many a charming evening outdoors looking up at the stars whilst surrounded by a cosy haze of light and warmth. Indeed, this idyllic existence is perfect whether you live in the countryside or the city, and there are many people who have been able to convert a high-rise apartment roof into a luxurious urban hideaway with little more than some beautiful outdoor lights and a patio heater.

Outdoor heating comes in two basic types: propane and infrared and what is right for you will largely depend on the type of configuration you are looking for. If you want heat evenly distributed across a large area, and have the space to mount a couple of infrared heaters, then these might be the best option for you. Infrared heaters usually consist of a small box that can be positioned overhead and casting out heat downwards. A patio heater, on the other hand, is usually a tall, freestanding unit that is powered by propane gas in the form of a canister and can therefore be moved wherever you choose. Although they might not be as powerful as a collection of infrared heaters, they have the great advantage of being easy to install and a lot cheaper to buy. Gas heaters come in all manner of sizes and styles, so you can be sure that whatever your needs, you can find something that will work for you.

Lighting is the other absolute necessity when it comes to fashioning your evening hideaway. Even with those balmy summer months of late night light, you will want to be able to continue your party long after the sun goes down. So make sure you invest in some high-quality lighting. A searchlight style lantern, for example, is a great way to ensure that your guests can see where they are going and remain safe.
