Freckles refer to the small, flat, circular (or oval) spots that are caused due to uneven distribution of the coloring pigment called melanin present in the skin. They usually

occur along those parts of the body that are exposed to the sun for a prolonged period of time.

Most freckles are brown (light or dark brown, tan), yellow or reddish to look at and are usually small (about the size of a pin head) though some might be slightly bigger.
