subject: Does Misleading Information On Carton Labeling Matters? [print this page]

When you purchase a product, what make you buy it? Ask this question to you and the answer will be the information on label and carton of the product. Information of any product greatly impacts your decision of buying because this is the very first thing you read and then decide whether you should buy or reject it. This is true for any commercial item you think to buy.

Customers expect the information to be true and authentic. If they find it false, it becomes a subject of dishonesty that further turns out to be a cause failure for the company or the brand producing products with false information. If you consider law, no country accepts it and fine the manufacturing company. In cut short, providing misleading information is an offence in any condition. This may include false information about the nature of the product, quantities, uses or prices.

Everything printed on the carton labeling is considered by the customers as reliable information when deciding to buy the product. Therefore, it is quite possible that customers can make claim against you, file a case against you and make you pay fine under different sections of law if the products was not obtained in a state as promised. For example, if products have variable weight in every lot, manufacturer should provide an average weight that is the least they provide in the product.

Similarly, the instructions for uses, storage; cautions and notes should be provided clearly both on the carton and the leaflet provided with the product.

Punishments for such offences are different for different products, but the regulation for all food and pharmaceutical products are stricter everywhere. Start it from nutritional values of food products or literature of pharmaceuticals, every piece of information has to be printed clearly while carton printing as it can be deadly and cost lives if printed wrongly. Hence, it becomes a responsibility of a manufacture and the carton packaging company to stick to the set of rules and regulations. The regulations are also against the claims like low fat or curing diseases on food items. Such claims are taken under much consideration by the food and health department and passed only after several rounds of tests.

Cartons packaging and printing companies need to be well knowledgeable about the printing rules before taking up the project. At the same front, manufacturer should respect the belief of their customers and provide actual information about their products. This is not just a duty but also a social responsibility of the product manufacture to stick to the set rules.
