subject: How To Carry Pepper Spray [print this page]

Pepper spray is an important tool for keeping a person protected from assailants or in potential dangerous situations that can occur during everyday situations. There are many times when a person feels threatened and may be able to keep someone at a safe distance from them by using pepper spray. Those who want to carry pepper spray have many different options. With the wide variety of styles, sizes, colors and strengths of pepper sprays that are now available a person can choose the one that best fits their personal needs.

The smallest pepper spray canisters are ones that can be carried in a pant pocket or can even be carried in the hand in case they are needed. There are pepper sprays that are as small as a lipstick tube, and some pepper sprays actually come disguised as lipstick. There are other small pepper spray canisters that are made in other shapes or are disguised to look like other things. This is to allow the owner of the spray to use it without worrying that it will be taken away form them before they can use it. Why take lipstick away from a woman? The disguise allows the person to hold the canister and to use it as needed. A few seconds of use is all that's needed to get the assailant to stop their actions, and that's what the disguised form will buy the owner of the spray.

Some people choose small, compact pepper spray canisters that can be carried on a keychain in order to keep their spray close by whenever they are away from home. Small keychain pepper spray canisters sometimes come with a cover to partially disguise what is hanging from the keychain. Others hang free from the keychain, letting anyone who sees the chain know that the person has the pepper spray to use as a personal defense weapon.

Carrying pepper spray in a purse or in a backpack is a good idea for those who want to take their pepper spray with them anywhere they go. However, the spray can only be used if it can be grabbed quickly by its owner. There are ways to make it easier to grab pepper spray when it is needed, even if it is being carried in a purse of backpack. One way is to carry it in an outside pocket so that it can be located without hesitation. If the pepper spray owner has to search for it, they may not have time to use it. Another way to make sure that the pepper spray can be reached is to clip it onto a strap of the purse or backpack. That leaves the canister in a place that is easy to grab in an emergency.

Where the canister is carried may not be as important as whether or not a person can get to it quickly. It's a good idea to practice grabbing the spray canister a few times until it can be grabbed quickly and without losing precious defense time by searching for it.
