2012 is the Titanic's one hundredth anniversary fo the sinking of the RMS Titanic, just five days following it's departure from Southampton on its maiden cruise to New York.The RMS Titanic departed Southampton, England on its maiden journey on April 10, 1912.

The sinking of the RMS Titanic was disasterous to the city of Southampton, England where the majority of the RMS titanic's crew was assembled.For the Titanic's centennial anniversary, Southhampton, England was silent for 1 minute to pay tribute to the victims of the Titanic disaster. To remember the victims wreaths were also placed into the water. Of those that died in the Atlantic as RMS Titanic sank to the floor of the ocean were more than 500 crew members who had named Southampton home.Many of their family were present to pay their respects.

The last breathing survivor from the RMS Titanic was born in the town of Southampton, Millvina Dean but she died in May 2009 and the events of April 15 1912 are really part of history for this proud town of Southampton.
