subject: Regina Loch-elvert: Deep Space Abstraction [print this page] Regina Loch-Elverts oil on canvas abstractions explore the deep space of pictorial time. Fusing the physicality of gesture and brushstroke with the accumulated wisdom of the history of Western art, the artists overtly saturated palette is stocked with pastel and primary hues expressing a celestial spring that celebrates form, line, color and figuration. Derived primarily from landscapes, the large-scale works reflect a deep affinity for the perfection of the natural world. Influenced by German Expressionism, the American Hudson River School, and particularly by the American Abstract Expressionist movement, Loch-Elverts paintings achieve a delightful spatial awareness that speaks to the presence of the divine in landscape.
Born in Berlin, Germany, Regina Loch-Elvert studied Art History at the Karl-Eberhards University. She received her second Bachelors in Fine Art from the University of Oregon in 1997 and an MFA from the Louisiana State University in 2007. She has also studied at the Vermont Studio Center and the New York Studio School in New York City.
