subject: Why Proper English Translation Is Necessary? [print this page]

Do you know what Chutzpah means? Well most of us familiar with international business jargon will be eager to inform that it is a character trait to have some desperation and greed and shamelessness and cockiness for success; where from this word originate? More importantly why couldnt we have a defined dictionary meaning of this word? It is still a perceived meaning and coming from one of the Urdu and Pashtu dominated country there was never a definite English translation of this word when it exploded in international scenario. There are many more like this word and not surprising that translation is now paid much more attention today not only to have concise definitions but to have a complete sense of a language.

It is tough to get a decent translator in your need. The need can be for translating religious manuscripts (say some 1000 years old), from one European language to other. The translator will need to have expert knowledge about both the languages and then will need to know the time of the manuscript. 1000 years before there were very few languages and communities in Europe, may be five in total. To translate from one of those ancient languages to one of modern day there will be need for inventing words for rituals that are extinct, behavior or custom that was dominating at that time should also be understood and presented in languages and then there will be many other pressing difficulties to the translation that even for English translation of that manuscript an expert will be needed; not only then it is advised to consult an expert at every translation activity.

Translation means not only changing the language of a draft but it is about giving any written word a new identity. It also changes many cultural implications, social customs, phrases of expression, definition and some subject complication. German language is very rich in engineering works and translating it into any language that has comparatively lesser development of science or engineering will force the translator to invent new words or consult scientific experts to get the meaning and understanding of words. Naturally translation is better executed between two languages similar in potential in a subject. Difference in standard can force the lesser language to improve or directly put the same words in place. Another Chutzpah like situation. This though no way implicate that English was a lesser language that the parent language we discussed but it had no expression to complement Chutzpah naturally there was no English translation of the word and so need to put it was demanding.
