subject: How To Prevent Cavities? [print this page]

Having good oral health through cavity prevention is widely taught from country to county. Since pre-school, children were educated on how to keep their teeth clean and sparkling white. It is a wonder why there are still lots of people who are suffering from dental cavities. There are many ways of maintaining good oral health. Talking to your dentist is one of the ways of having first-hand information from an expert. Proper execution of the processes on maintaining good oral health can save you from developing cavities.

Ways to cavity prevention

Eat high fiber diet. Vegetables and fruits are the best food to prevent cavities. They lack refined sugars which are found in most processed food like white bread, candies, pasties and chocolates. The fibers found in them are instruments to sweep off food debris trapped on the crevices of the teeth. They also maintain the proper chemical made-up of the body. This is the reason why people who are in high fiber diet are less likely to develop cavities even if they do not floss or brush often. Researchers also found out that body chemistry is the primary responsible for preventing cavities. If the chemical balance of your body is normal, it is capable of combating bacterial attack even if your oral hygiene is not perfect.

Speaking of brushing your teeth, two-three times a daily is the best frequency to brush. Tooth pastes have a corroding effect on the teeth which causes then to become brittle. The vigorous action of brushing can wear out the teeth easily. It can also cause the gum to recede later in life. So make sure you always use soft bristles.

Use non-alcohol mouth rinse. Mild mouth rinses can prevent the mucosa to get scratched. This will not cause more bacteria to reside in your mouth. Rinsing also prevents gum infection which leads to tooth decay later.

Drink lots of water. By doing this, you are flushing out food debris and bacteria from your mouth. Less food trapped on the surfaces of your teeth means less bacterial infestation.

Stimulate salivary glands. High production of saliva is helpful in maintaining oral health. Saliva has an antibacterial property that controls bacterial proliferation. Actually, not all oral bacteria are harmful. Saliva is able to target bad bacteria and spare the good ones.

Keep a good blood. Healthy blood keeps incidence of oral cavities low. Research found that a good ratio of calcium and phosphorus in the blood keeps your teeth stronger and healthier. It cannot be easily destroyed by bad bacteria. So, if you think blood composition has nothing to do with oral protection, think again.

Have a regular visit to your dentist. Have a professional cleaning twice a year. Your dentist can help you a lot.
