. In truth, if you are hoping to build a muscular, attractive body, you don't need heavy weights.

Most people are shocked to find out that they can create noticeable muscle mass by using nothing more than their own body weight. The following exercises will allow you to add strength and size to some key muscle groups, while also decreasing the chances of serious injuries.

Dips

This is a great exercise that targets several muscles, including the lower chest, triceps and shoulders. Gymnasts are renowned for using dips to build strong, sculpted upper bodies. Most gyms have a place where dips can be performed; however, you can typically find parallel bars at local outdoor parks.

Lunges

Lunges are great for adding strength, mass and definition to the legs, while also promoting a shapelier backside. While some people enjoy great genetic attributes that make their clothing fit well; many of us have to work hard to create a round rump. Lunges are the quickest way to build an attractive, muscular backside, while also adding size and strength to the quadriceps muscle.

Pull-ups

This great exercise can target two major muscle groups: the biceps and the back. To work the former, hold the bar so your palms are facing your face. To target the back, hold the bar so your hands are facing away from your face.

Push-ups

Push-ups can build pectoral muscle and improve definition. By placing your hands close together, you can prioritize the inner chest. By placing them far apart, you can target the outer chest. To target the upper chest, place your feet on a platform to create a decline. Not only will this help build muscle at the top of your chest, it will stimulate shoulder muscle growth.

Reverse dips

When performed properly, this great exercise can build bigger, shapelier triceps.

Safe and affordable

Each year, Americans pay millions of dollars for expensive bodybuilding equipment and gym memberships, when they could be using their own body weight to build muscle. What's more, since body weight training utilizes natural movements, it reduces the likelihood of common injuries associated with traditional weight lifting.
