subject: Management In Practice: - The Key Steps To Follow [print this page]

Different people have different meanings for the term success and implementation. While some people see financial success as their barometer of measurement, there are others who seek growth and effective functioning as their milestones for success. However management in practice requires a very careful and planned approach. There are often small gaps that are left unnoticed, which later widen and threaten the very concept of effective management in practice. Discussed below are some key steps that will take you through the stages of planning and implementation which will help you succeed in practice management.

Setting your goals

It is always said that unless you take the first step you will never begin your journey. Effective management in practice also requires you to take that first step which is to set your goals for your practice. Unless you set your goals on a priority basis you will not have any idea on where to begin and where to head. While setting your goals you need to do it on a very small scale and it should not just be like a mission statement or a general objective.

The goals set must be quantifiable

Most people who aim for effective management in practice make the mistake of setting their goals which cannot be valued on a quantifiable basis. This will not work as these people will not be able to measure their performance against the set goals at a given point of time. This is a big hindrance as you will find it very difficult to know how well you are faring against your objectives that you have set. Hence when you set your goals, make sure that you set them in such a fashion that you can measure your performance in definite terms at a given point in time.

Do not set unrealistic objectives

Having an aim thats sky high is definitely a motivating factor. While aiming for effective management in practice make sure that whatever plans you lay, and objectives you decide upon, are practical and can be achieved if you put in the required effort. You should make the mistake of setting a completely unrealistic aim. This is because when you target such impossible feats you will feel dejected and demotivated in the end even after putting in your best efforts. Hence aim for tough feats but not unachievable ones.

Time management

The most important ingredient when it comes to the recipe of management in practice is time. Unless you have this in control all the efforts and planning that you have put into play will go for a toss. Professional management is all about managing the right timeframe and delivering the end results within the planned duration. Many of you put in every effort possible in the initial phases and then lose steam towards the end. This is not the right approach at all and you need to be on time and ahead of schedules whenever possible. Keep challenging yourself.
