20 August 2012
Following a very busy schedule with the Wimbledon championship at SW9 then the wonderful Olympic games Tennis tournament, the US Open begins on August the 27th at Flushing Meadows, the last Grand Slam of the year.
As the players had their final warm up games it was that man Roger Federer that came out on top again at the Cincinnati masters with an emphatic 6-0 7-6 victory over Novak Djokovic to retain his status as the world number 1 he will be hot favorite to win in New York a title he has won five times but not since 2008. Andy Murray the holder of the Cincinnati masters lost out to Frenchman Jeremy Chardy early doors which was a bit of surprise after the confident display at the London Olympics. Do not read too much into this as Murray has had a massive uplift in confidence after his improved performances this year this is just a blip. Another early shock exit was from the American Andy Roddick, who may now be on the decline after some fantastic years at the top of this beautiful game, to be fair he is suffering with back problems and now has a race against time to be fit enough for the US Open 2012. But sadly we will be missing the powerful Rafael Nadal again through the knee injury problem that continues to plague him. There are genuine concerns that Nadals training is so intense that he has pushed his body too far in the pursuit of being the best. He now has eleven grand slams to his name seven of these are of course the French Open on clay, but his power play has already began to take its toll on his knees at the young age of 26. Please lets hope that he can overcome this and return to the top of his game for the good of the sport in general. There is still plenty of world class Tennis to see during 2012, here are the latest world ATP rankings, we aim to keep you up to date with all the latest developments from the world of Tennis, here at mytennisstore.co.uk
