We were in fact initially founded by a man names Martin Worster, this was in 1964. At this point we were not a huge company as we are now though, he simply had a small stall in which he sold bric a brac items and various other small objects. He always had an eye for a good bargain and that is the reason why he developed so rapidly in the buying and selling industry. In 1966 he got himself a small shop which was of course the very first Canonbury Antiques; this shop was located near the arsenal football stadium. Around the same time as he opened this shop various other people opened similar shops in the same area making this area become very popular for dealers to shop and find special gems. In 1968 whilst Martin was still at this shop he had a visit from a man called Bill Peyton. Bill purchased a lot of furniture which he late placed in his auction house. Later on Martin and Bill made a deal in which Martin shipped good to Bill regularly for him to sell on. This went out all the way through the 60s and then 70s.
Soon after this Martin then went on to purchase a larger shop that was located near the well known Portobello market. At the time when he got it people thought he was making a bad decision and that he couldnt do well in that particular area but he soon proved them wrong. A couple of years later this area became a leading antiques centre with over 20 different antique shops. People travelled from all over to visit this area and find perfect items. This shop was up and running for around 30 years and eventually other members of the family started to help out and work here too.
