subject: Ywsos Thought - Why Cant Our Government Be As Great As Its People? [print this page]

How many conversations have you had lately that start with a phrase like, Whats going on in Washington? Yeah, I cant count that high either.

Gridlock. Partisanship. Politicking. It all seems much worse now than it has ever been before, and its not helping get past our current economic crisis any faster. I wont go into who started what and when or whether its Republicans or Democrats at fault thats an argument that could go on forever. And if we wait for the politicians to grow up and fix the economy, well all be broke.

But theres one phrase that keeps forming in my head whenever I read about the latest impasse in Congress or inflammatory campaign speech laying blame at the other guys feet: Why cant our government be as great as its people?

With the unemployment rate still hovering around 8.3% (according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics), the decision of our representatives in Washington to put politics ahead of their responsibilities to their constituents seems nearly criminal. Since the moment President Obama was sworn in in 2009, it seems as though both parties have put on blinders and set their sights on this upcoming election.

Its a shame. Its a disgrace. These representatives House, Senate, Executive have acted and continue to function like the Three Stooges.

This is a great country, but lately it seems weve lost our way. We can turn this around. Weve made it through economic hardships like this and worse before and have emerged from them even stronger. It reminds me of an old saying that Ive written about before, From catastrophe comes disaster, and from disaster comes opportunity.

What it will take to lift us out of this current disaster is competent leadership, the willingness to work together its called compromise and it seems to be a dirty word in Washington these days but most of all, it will take the nurturing of our countrys entrepreneurial spirit.

In this economy, setting out on your own is almost a necessity. The job market has dried up, leaving many people with no other choices but find a new career or start their own business. And those who decide to set out on the long, rocky path of setting up a new business or practice need all the help they can get. It doesnt have to be a long complicated, expensive experience.

On a practical level, easing the cost of starting a new business or practice is essential to promoting the entrepreneurial spirit. Reducing overhead would certainly help, and thats where virtual offices come into play.

Lower Manhattans Financial District is the countrys most important business center and an address here lends instant credibility to any business particularly to any small practice or business. What better way to boost a new company than to put a Wall Street address on its letterhead, website and other marketing materials. But real estate here is expensive. Eliminating that cost of a physical office lets the entrepreneur put his or her resources to more important uses.

YourWallStreetOffice does provide that office space NYC , along with mail and parcel receiving services, personalized phone service answered in your company's name, as well as guest reception and conference rooms. And whats more, we are a boutique shop, specializing in customer satisfaction at attractive pricing most times lower than our competitors. YWSO is contributing to nurture the entrepreneurial spirit.
