subject: Suggestions For Getting The Car Prepared For Your Summer Holiday [print this page]

The summer seasons are often when we get out of work for a couple of weeks and enjoy a great getaway with family or friends. If the weather is good then we will also take advantage of the sun's rays at week-ends and for all those with young kids there is the thought of how to keep them busy for six weeks off school! If what we decide to enjoy necessitates travelling there by car then we must make certain both we and our motor vehicle are ready for anything we decide to do.

Whilst you might service your car frequently, it would be sensible to check certain items like oil and water level, tyres treads and wiper blades amongst others to ensure that they are operating effectively, in particular when you intend on embarking on an extended journey. You wont want to find yourself stopped on the side of the road with the family whilst you wait for a recovery truck all because of something which would have taken just a short while to check and been corrected before travelling.

Its a certainty that you'll have fun with what you had planned far far more than trying to play Yellow Car, Green Car with an angry partner and bored kids, whilst seated on a grass verge for ages!

With that, you must however be ready for the unforeseen which might leave you parked for a time. Organise your trip a few days beforehand and ensure those all important video game consoles for children or the like and also snacks, cold drinks, map books, warning notices etc are prepared.

Should you be going overseas you must think about a lot more. Along with your passport you'll be required under the law to carry your driver's license, insurance coverage information, MOT and the necessary warning sign and reflective body wear. You'll also want to take time to research possible other laws of driving pertaining to the region you are headed.

E.g.; in areas of Spain you are not permitted to carry your food shopping on the back seat of the vehicle - it Has to be in the trunk. Failing to adhere to this and just about every other misdemeanor will result in an immediate two hundred euro fine and its no use saying you dont carry that amount of money on you - the Guardia will happily either escort you to the closest cash machine to lighten your bank account or load your credit card (I'm not joking) or in worse case scenarios impound the car!

Whatever your choice of vacation or day out, the security of you, your family along with other motorists around you is of the utmost importance, so plan before you decide to travel - ensure the car is kept up to the best standard BEFORE you leave and that you have packed for every scenario. This will all help towards an enjoyable summer break.

Follow these driving tips and they may help you to prevent a bad start to your summer holiday.
