subject: The Basic Natural Skin Care Products [print this page]

Going natural is the latest trend in skin care as more and more people are starting to grow conscious of what they put on their skin. As such, natural skin care products are making it big in the beauty industry with more and more companies selling their own organic products. With so many treatments to choose from, you may end up confused on what to use for your skin. It is essential, therefore, to know what you should look and watch out for. For starters, you should know the fundamental principles of skin care: cleansing, toning and moisturizing.

The first basic step of skin care involves cleansing the skin from dirt, dust and debris. Many natural skin care products act as cleansers, and you can find a good variant in many stores. One common ingredient in natural cleansers is milk. The use of this substance has actually been traced centuries ago, and was made popular by the famous Cleopatra. Using a milk-based cleanser is known to help keep the skin supple, soft and smooth, because milk naturally contains alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs).

The second step of skin care is toning. It is beneficial to apply a mild toner after cleansing your face. This method minimizes the pores and prevents breakouts by removing stubborn dirt not removed by cleansing. Natural skin care products with witch hazel extract is generally recommended because even though it is quite mild, it remains to be effective especially for those with sensitive skin. It helps minimize blemishes, controls oil production and tightens pores--all without overdrying the skin.

The third and last step of basic skin care is moisturizing. While cleansing and toning removes excess oils, these steps may unknowingly strip off the natural oils from your skin. You need to hydrate your face to replenish the lost moisture. While there are a lot of natural skin care products that claim to help keep your skin moisturized, aloe vera remains as the most effective and cheapest ingredient. You can never go wrong with aloe vera because its hydrating and anti-microbial properties are incredible. As an added bonus, it also helps reduce inflammation and repairs damaged skin, so it can be good for acne as well.

Finding the right natural skin care products for your skin can be challenging sometimes. After all, you cannot predict how your skin will react. Natural products will not make you immune to irritation or allergies, although the risks of acquiring these are significantly reduced. However, by keeping yourself informed of what ingredients work best, you can judge and identify what may or may not work for you.
