subject: 7 Steps To Take Control Of Your Life (and Create The Life Of Your Dreams) [print this page] Yesterday I was relaxing in the hotel's jacuzzi overlooking the Santorini caldera, when I got a phone call from Mira.
She had flown from Santorini to her hometown in Slovakia to attend her grandmother's 90th birthday. Her entire family was there.
As soon as she arrived there all the talk was about 'problems'. Just non- stop drama. The conversations revolved exclusively around health problems, money problems, work problems, relationship problems
[At Corinna's wedding in Greece the previous week, I had noticed the exact same situation. Everyone complaining and moaning about their life circumstances, and no one was doing anything about it.
But the entrepreneurs that I met there (Harris and Dimitris) were talking instead about how they're working towards opportunities in Greece for bio-fuel, solar power, and wind power installations...]
[Personally, I've chosen to cut 'drama' out of my life. A simple, conscious decision to not allow 'drama'. Life is too short ]
After an hour of complaining, blaming, and more negative talk, her family turned to Mira and asked: 'So, what problems are YOU having?'
She replied: 'Nothing! My life is amazing! I am very, very happy!'
Mira loves what she does (she helps women by teaching hypnobirthing and hypno-fertility workshops, and does hypnosis for eliminating the fear of childbirth), we have a lovely life together, and she could not think of anything negative to say.
Their faces dropped. Instead of being happy for her, they shunned her and ignored her the whole evening!
'Who does she think she is, making us feel bad about our lives! She should have problems like WE do, so that WE feel better about
ourselves and so that WE don't feel like we have to change anything!'
Have you ever noticed how negative and miserable people always try to drag you down with them?
Australians call it the 'Tall Poppy' Syndrome (if a poppy flower grows too tall above the rest, it is chopped down)
Do You Suffer From 'Approval-Seeking' Disease?
What is terrible and insidious about this is that most people go through life just tying to 'fit in' with the people around them.
In order to fit in and be 'accepted' by the people around us, in order to 'get their approval', we will lower ourselves to their level.
Subconsciously, we humans know from a young age that we survive by getting love and attention from the people around us. As an infant, if we don't get love and attention/acceptance from the people around us, we die.
Subconsciously we still believe that we need the approval and acceptance of the people around us in order to survive.
Are the people around you miserable, broke, and unhealthy?
Guess what. Chances are YOU will be miserable, broke, and unhealthyjust to fit in.
The GREAT news about this is that it works in reverse as well.
Spend time with happy, successful people, leading fulfilling lives, and guess what, your subconscious mind will force you to rise to their level through any means necessary just to fit in!
You Become Who You Spend Time With
I know that some of my readers will think: 'Ha! easy for you to say, Mark! You are successful! You have money! You don't understand MY problems!'
I've worked hard for years, studying self-improvement, analyzing my limiting beliefs about myself, my looks, money and business, etc.
then using NLP techniques for destroying my limiting beliefs, programming in new empowering beliefs, conditioning them in daily, etc.
It wasn't easy, but I did it anyway and I was able to turn my life around from 8 years of depression and being broke to having a life I truly love. Anybody can do this.
But people prefer to play the 'victim' ('these things are happening to me I'm a victim') and blame other people for their 'life circumstances'.
If you want to be a successful laptop entrepreneur, stop complaining, stop moping around, and TAKE CONTROL of your life.
This is what I did to take control and to turn my life around:
1 - Know your outcome (write down your goals)
2 - Change the questions you ask yourself, and change your FOCUS
For example, instead of saying 'why does this always happen to me?' ask yourself and focus on 'How can I turn this situation around quickly and effectively and have fun in the process?'
Instead of repeating to yourself 'why am I such a loser?', ask yourself 'How can I become an amazing, inspiring, multi-millionaire who LOVES his life?'
I also changed what I focused on by writing down 20 things I loved about myself, 20 things I'm grateful for, I created a 'goal-card' that I
carried around with me, and I created visual 'dreamboards' (pictures relating to my goals), I shouted out my 'affirmations' daily, etc.
3 - Take responsibility
A central tenet of all personal development philosophies - and I have studied most of them - is that in order to have a wonderful life one must take complete responsibility for it and everything that happens therein.
You see, all that exists in your life, good or bad, is there because of YOUR attitudes, beliefs, thoughts, choices, and actions.
You and you alone have 'manifested' these situations.
Your problems don't go away until you take responsibility for them.
4 - Brainstorm 100 solutions
This exercise is INCREDIBLE. Just do it. For example, brainstorm 100 ways how you can make $3,000 a month online.
5 - Don't be afraid to ask for help - find a mentor
6 - Change your Peer Group! (spend time around successful, happy people and eliminate the negative people from your life!)
7 - Take massive, intelligent action!
The people who do this guess what, they're the ones who you read about every day in my 'Success Story Of The Day' section.
