The problem is to add '1/5' and '2/5'
Here the denominators are same (the numbers under the fraction bar), we can add them together by simply adding the numerators (the 1 and 2 = 3), while keeping the same denominator (the 5.
So, the answer is '3/5'

Solution
Here the problem is to add '1/5' and '2/3'
Here the denominators are different (lower numbers), so we must first find a common denominator of the two fractions, before adding them together.
For the denominators here, the 5 and 3, a common denominator for both is 15.
With the common denominator, '1/5' becomes '3/15' and '2/3' becomes '10/15'
So now our addition problem becomes, '3/15' + '10/15'
As the denominators of the fractions are same (the numbers under the fraction bar), we can add them together by simply adding the numerators (the 3 and 10 = 13), while keeping the same denominator (the 15).
Our answer here is '13/15'
