subject: Olympic Tennis Success [print this page] Well what an Olympics for Team GBWell what an Olympics for Team GB. A huge result with twenty nine gold medals far more than we could have hoped for. And what a difference a month makes in peoples lives. We all saw the tears at Wimbledon when Andy Murray was the beaten finalist in the men's singles, despite playing awesome Tennis he missed that crucial point that may have led to a two sets to love advantage, instead Mr Ice Man Roger Federer added yet another grand slam title with an unstoppable display to leave our Andy distressed.
Yet here at the Olympic Tennis what a turnaround, all week Murray looked so comfortable, so at ease with himself and so pressing in his style of play, he played such positive forceful tennis as if the chains were off, as if because it was not a Grand Slam and that it was his country that he was representing he actually enjoyed himself playing with a freedom and agression not previously seen. Some will say that Federer was tired playing six games in eight days and maybe he didn't want it as much as Mr Murray, but hey come on he was beaten in straight sets out of sight, Federer had no answer to Murrays returns and aggressive style taking the game to his opponent. And let us not forget who Murray beat in the semi? O yes a certain Novak Djokovic to prove he was a worthy winner of the Olympic Gold medal. The question is will this be the springboard for Murray to go on and win Grand Slams? Confidence must be sky high and of course we have the US open just around the corner.
Congratulations to for the last minute pairing of Murray and Laura Robson in the mixed doubles who almost pulled off the Gold medal but lost in the tie break after looking so comfortable in the first set against the top seeds from Belarus, Mirnyi and Azarenka so a silver medal there for team GB, in this wonderful Olympic Tennis 2012. The Bryan bothers continued their remarkable story of success in the Men's Doubles with another victory and Gold for the USA. And also for the USA the return to form of Serena Williams at Wimbledon 2012 continued here at the Olympics with an easy Gold Medal against Maria Sharapova. This was a real shock at just how easy the Williams victory was with Sharapova winning just one game in the entire contest. It did not look like the Russian had her heart in this one at all.
Thanks to all of the players representing their country in providing us with a feast of tennis activity, the whole of the Olympics has been a remarkable success story here in GB not just about how many medals were won by who, but for the feel good factor in these very difficult economic times around the world. To see individual sports people come together striving to achieve their best for themselves and their country is very uplifting for all of us including people who are not sports orientated, just fantastic all round.
