subject: The Course That I Finally Selected [print this page]

One year back, after completing my graduation in B.Sc. Computer Science, I realized that I need to learn a new programming language to improve my career prospects. I used to search for jobs on the internet and newspaper. I saw that some of the programming languages that I have never heard or learnt are in great demand in Ahmadabad.

During my graduation days I learnt basics like C, C++, COBOL, HTML, VB 6.0 and DBMS like FoxPro and Oracle. These were mostly basics and outdated things. And, so I had to learn a new programming language. But it was a difficult scenario. I was perplexed because I didn"t know which course to choose so that I will be able to work with it keeping in mind the demand in market.

I started approaching some of the IT professionals that I know for their guidance and to know the demand in market. Some said PHP is in demand while others said .NET is in demand in Ahmadabad. Now I had two options: PHP and .NET. I really didn"t know which one to choose. Then, I thought what if I learn both languages I would be on safe side. So I started seeking best .NET training in Ahmadabad and PHP training in Ahmadabad.

It was at that time I came in contact of one of my friends, who was a .NET developer. I narrated my condition to her. She said it was useless to learn both languages instead it would be better if I master any one language because that itself is sufficient to grab a good job. She told me .NET was worth learning. She insisted me to learn .NET because I had learned VB 6.0 during graduation. VB 6.0 would help me learn .NET fast because the technology is quite similar. Moreover, it"s easy to learn.

So I thought I would be learning .NET and pursue a career in .NET technology. Then, I went to the institute from where my friend learnt .NET. There I went to the counselor for the counseling session. In this institute they provided training of many programming languages like PHP, .NET, JAVA, etc. So I started enquiring about all the languages out of curiosity. I wanted to have an idea about programming languages taught over there.

BCA students had JAVA subject in their final year. But I never studied it in my graduation. So I wanted to know about JAVA. I had studied C++ in my final year of graduation. I found many of the JAVA codes similar to C++. So I enquired about JAVA. The counselor told me that if you are interested in coding, then JAVA is what you should choose or else if you find coding wearisome and instead like simple drag and drop, then go for .NET. I said that I was interested in coding. JAVA is an object-oriented language like C++. So I asked which one is better JAVA or .NET. She said both are good. Then, I asked how about job prospects. I wanted to know which of the two, i.e. JAVA and .NET will give me good support as far as getting a good job is considered. So she said .NET is established technology in Ahmadabad while JAVA is developing technology. So I didn"t give a second thought an enrolled for JAVA. So from the bewilderment of probing for .NET training in Ahmadabad and PHP training in Ahmadabad to learn .NET and PHP respectively, I finally settled down with studying JAVA.
