subject: Combat Your Footwear Addiction [print this page]

You can always tell a shoe hoarder, they are the ones that stand guiltily in front of a straining wardrobe dying to release the 20+ pairs of ballet pumps bought on a whim. It is not just women that are guilty of shoe hoarding, men too have been known to bulk buy the same pair of shoes in a range of colours, just in case they will ever need neon yellow footwear. Although it is hard to rein a shoe addiction in, here are some top tips for cutting down your wardrobe and only focusing on the basics.

First of all there is nothing like confrontation to shock you into action. Empty your wardrobe and line up all of your shoes on the floor, not go through and immediately bin all pairs that have not been worn in over 6 months. After you have successfully culled your collection, go through and try on your remaining pairs. If you immediately get a flashback of pain from that pair of stiletto heels, point them in the direction of the bin or even better, the charity bag.

If you find yourself left with only a couple of pairs, it is time to go shopping. This may seem like defying the point however if you are careful you can create a capsule footwear wardrobe that will see you through almost any occasion. For women, a classic pair of black court shoes for work and smart events and a sparkly pair of heels for those special occasions is a must. Wedge heels for summer months, a pair of ballet pumps for nights when your feet need a break and of course a comfy pair of trainers is all you need. If the winter months are quickly approaching, a good pair of leather boots is a great addition to your wardrobe. Check out Lotus Shoes for a fantastic collection of styles. Men are the same when it comes to shoes, a classic pair of loafers or brogues for smart occasions and a pair of stylish trainers for casual events and you are good to go.

Once you have cut your collection down to size you should be set for any eventuality. Six pairs may not seem like much however when you really think about it, you can dress shoes up or down depending on the outfit that you wear. Start putting together your capsule collection today and enjoy never having to spend another day trying to barricade your wardrobe door shut.
