subject: Inactivity Killing As Many As Smoking [print this page]

Perhaps a harsh headline here but this is the main topic in the news today. Its hardly anything new or surprising though is it? We all know that lack of exercise or physical activity is bad for us bur perhaps we do not realise just how bad, hence I think this more shocking way of presenting it.

I think the key message here is that inactivity indirectly is responsible for many diseases, but inactivity coupled with a bad diet which they fail to mention here, will increase this tenfold.

As a Nation the UK overall is an inactive nation. We have the Olympic Games about to start in little over a weeks time, a time when sport will be celebrated in a big way, lots of lean, fit and inspiring athletes taking part in their chosen sports.

Should top influential Athletes be doing more to encourage sport among youngsters and generally be ambassadors and role models for leading brands?

There are no excuses nowadays for not being able to keep active. Time restraints, kids, family, work if you really wanted to do it, you would find a way.

It is recommended that adults do 150 (thats just 2.5 hours) minutes of moderate exercise, such as brisk walking, cycling or gardening, each week.

Home Gym Equipment is a good substitute for not being able to always find the time to get out and about and is becoming increasingly popular too.if at first you dont succeed, try, try again!

There are many choices from the Treadmill if you like to run, or the exercise bike for that lower impact activity and if you like cycling or a Rowing Machine for great all over body fitness.

Not forgetting the free weights too though. Resistance training and cardio training should both be incorporated into your Fitness Equipment routine as both are beneficial, one for the heart and lungs primarily and the other for the muscles, bones, developing strength and preventing injuries. Dont be one of those people making excuses!
