subject: Dynamics Gp Customization Report Writer Multiple Logos [print this page] Newly certified consultants typically tell you that there are only three SOP Invoice forms and you can place graphical logo on these three and this is it. We would like to suggest approach where you may run unlimited number of companies in Great Plains and each one has its own invoice form with unique logo. This publication is not programmer oriented and every one can read and understand the ideas:
1.Customization Maintenance form allows you to export custom features such as RW modified invoices, modified forms to name a few into so-called packages. Lets try to think about exporting and importing package
2.Report Writer package export and import or what happens behind the scenes. Lets assume that you are running twenty companies in Great Plains and that SOP Long Invoice form is used for modification. You place graphical JPG logo on the first modified form and print batch of invoices. Then you go to Dynamics GP -> Tools -> Customize -> Customization Maintenance then highlight SOP Long Invoice Form and export it into package naming it as Invoice for company A. Lets continue in the next paragraph
3.Couple of weeks later you login into company B and launch report writer to place company B logo on the invoice form. You do the job in Report Writer. Change invoice graphics and wording and print the batch. Then export the form into separate package where you should mention the name of company B
4.Keep going the same way with the rest of your companies
5.Now lets assume that you are a year from the date when you modified and exported the first company invoice. Probably you are in membership outsourcing business. It is time now to print new batch of invoices for company A. Open Customization Maintenance form and import package containing A form. At this point you are ready to print documents
6.What happens behind the scenes? Package is replacing modified form in Reports.dic dictionary
Lets pick and answer few questions from the internet auditory:
Q. We are using the method described above and after couple of years of success we are now getting Unknown error. Report to Microsoft. Do you have the clue?
A. Yes. Your Reports.dic file is corrupt and you need to rebuild it. The simplest method is to rename this dictionary then open Report Writer and import all the reports from the old renamed file
Q. Does it work in Small Business Financials version 9.0?
A. SBF doesnt support graphical format. What we do for our customers is the following. We take Reports.dic and open the form in Dynamics GP and modify the form in graphics. Then we export it into the package and import in Small Business Financials
