subject: Where We Keep Our Music [print this page] Where we keep our music is something that has fundamentally changed over the last few years - after all it wasn't so long ago that all music was stored on cassettes or on records. Now we live in a more digital age, however, there are plenty of new ways we can keep our music and this article looks at the options available to us.
On Our Laptop
It was once the mission statement of Microsoft to have a computer in every home in the USA, and while at the time it seemed an impossible goal, it's obviously something that's been achieved and we are now at the stage where not only is there a computer in every household, but one that is portable and very powerful. Laptops used not to have massive storage for things like music or films, but as they have evolved they have become much better at handling that quantity of data, meaning that with powerful speakers they can be very effective home entertainment systems.
On Your Phone
Having music on the go is something that we've been developing since the first Sony Walkmans first came out, and after a brief spell with Discmans music became digital and now everyone can walk around with their music on their phone. It's only a recent development with the new generation of smartphones that we can now do this, but it does mean that we no longer need to carry around an extra piece of kit to listen to our music. Of course, it's extremely important to back up your music to a hard disc as otherwise you could lose your entire collection in the event of theft or damage to your phone, and nobody wants that to happen to themselves.
In The Cloud
The cloud is a new way of storing files that means we don't lose our data if the device we have saved them on stops working or is stolen. As a result, it now means we can back up all of our music in a place that is completely safe and removed from the dangers of everyday life. Of course, the downside is that you'll have to remember yet another password and may even have to pay for the storage, but it does guarantee maximum security for your music.
As you can see there are many different places we can keep our music - where do you keep yours?
