subject: Advantages Of Dreamweaver [print this page]

There is a misconception about Dreamweaver that it is built to completely remove the agency of HTML and CSS coding from the web design. CSS and HTML coding is still needed though Dreamweaver has substituted it.

Let us explain this with the assistance of a simple example. A nail-gun is a substitute of hammer. But nail-gun is unable to fully replace the hammer. A nail-gun can be used for nailing the boards together, but it is not a precise tool. If you solely rely on a nail-gun, you will be unable to do detail-oriented work. Therefore your work will be restricted and you will be unable to make what you exactly want to make. A skilled worker is fully aware of when to use a hammer when a nail-gun is not appropriate for the work.

Dreamweaver is analogous to a nail-gun in the sense that it makes life easier but sometimes it is not sufficient. If you do not learn CSS and HTML, you will be completely dependent on the Dreamweaver for designing a site. Though this is not an entirely bad thing, your outlook will be narrowed and you will be able to complete limited tasks.

Extolling virtues of Dreamweaver:

Writing Content: Dreamweaver makes writing content of the website much easier. Mere HTML coding can be complicated.

Management of Files: If you are designing a large website which has many pages, managing the files can easily become messy. Dreamweaver has made management of files easiers because it has a built-in dependency tracking system. The synchronization tool, that is in-built in the Dreamweaver, automatically handles the files and revise the website's pages accordingly. Many web designers use Dreamweaver just due to this tool.

Preliminary Page Layout: Dreamweaver comes with a lot of good tools that help you to layout your website. Many templates and "pre-fab" layouts are offered by the Dreamweaver; they offer you a suitable starting point.

Although these layout tools are helpful, they are of limited help. Some designs are impossible to be pulled off with the aid of these built-in tools. In such instances, you have to go back to manually change the HTML and CSS coding.

Limitations of Dreamweaver:

Dreamweaver cannot fully remove the need to use CSS and HTML coding. The objective of Dreamweaver is to aid you in CSS and HTML coding and to make some of the dull phases of web designing less problematic for you.

You can design a very good-looking site very easily and quickly with the help of Dreamweaver without ever learning HTML and CSS. The drawback is that without the knowhow of CSS and HTML, you will have limited ability to entirely tailor your website.
