subject: Clubbing In Cancun Part 4 [print this page]

In reality, there are really only two things required for a really great party (assuming the guests are already present): the right music and a good DJ. Everything else is gravy. The lasers, fog machines, video screens, cage dancers, mirror balls, open bars and mood lighting, simply enhance the sound created by the DJ. Different types of clubs use different kinds of DJ's. At a reggae club, the DJ doesn't actually choose the tracks or play them, a 'selector' does. While the selector takes care of the music, the DJ toasts the crowd and raps along with the rhythms, often telling stories or reciting poems. At a hip hop club, DJ's choose and play their own tracks, using several turntables at a time. The DJ will interact with the resident MC, creating a comedic rapport along with the music that always gets the crowd involved.

The famous Bulldog Club and Concert Hall in Cancun was originally inspired by the Bulldog Cafe in Mexico City. Club owners wanted to create a venue "be and for musicians", and thus enlisted the advice of band members well known in the mainstream. Apparently Bulldog Club was created using suggestions from members of Guns n'Roses, AC/DC, Motley Crue, U2, Radiohead and Poison. Well known local and international acts are featured at Bulldog Cancun, and they specialize in live music only. The Bulldog Jacuzzi is an added benefit for those important persons that like a bit of exotica.

Cocktails and singing, fun and food, plus comedic skits, are all combined at this next restaurant/dance club that has great food. Carlos and Charlie's isn't a theme restaurant, it is really just a place to have a great meal and be entertained. Of course, that doesn't mean its dinner theatre either. Guests are free to wander, amuse themselves, dance on tables, sing their favourite tunes, or just sit back and watch the fun. The servers are performers as well, working double-duty - and quite spontaneously! Although Charlie's and Carlos may not fit one's typical description of a nightclub, they both have music, singing and dancing, and are wonderful places to have a great time!?

We are almost at the end of our series on nightclubs in Cancun, and hopefully the information has been helpful. By now you should have a pretty good idea of the type of dance club you prefer, which ones you want to try and the ones that just don't appeal to you. Be on the lookout for part five, as there are still more clubs to think about for your next journey.
