subject: Jazz Concerts On The Roof Terrace Of La Pedrera [print this page]

La Pedrera or also known as Casa Mil is a building designed by the one and only Antoni Gaud. La Pedrera means "The Quarry." Gaudi is one of the greatest architects of the 20th century. Thanks to his beautiful creations in Barcelona, tourists from all over the world visit Spain just to see his masterpieces. He broke architectural rules and created fantastical buildings that captivate children and adults alike. Many of his buildings are declared as "World Heritage" by UNESCO including Casa Mil. It is the largest civil building designed by Gaud. It is an unconventional building because it does not have a single straight line. The building has freestanding faade, which is supported by its own structure. It is independent of the rest of the building.

The roof is probably the most fascinating part of the building. It is a world of its own with different shapes and textures. The terrace is made up noteworthy chimneys, ventilation towers and other features. You will find a number of surrealistic chimneys that look like faces of warriors from a futuristic world. From the terrace, you will get the best view of the Spanish streets.

The fact that La Pedrera's rooftop is a beautiful place to enjoy scenery is probably why social worker CatalunyaCaixa has selected it as a backdrop to enjoy jazz music. A series of concerts are held on the rooftop annually.
