subject: Princess Kates Hats & Fascinators [print this page] Ever since the announcement of Prince Williams engagement to Kate Middleton on November 16th, 2010, Englands future queen established herself as a budding fashion icon. Middleton once worked in the fashion world as an accessories buyer for the Jigsaw fashion
chain and has developed a unique sense of style that befits both her age and position. Today, we score her accessory: the Duchess of Cambridges decadent toppers.
1. Milliner: Whiteley
Style Score: 7/10
For the Order of the Thistle, the Duchess trotted out the Cappucino hat by Whiteley,
worn previously at the 2011 Epsom Derby, as well as Sarah McCorquodales wedding, and
teamed it with bespoke Emilia Wickstead.
2. Milliner: Jane Corbett
Style Score: 9/10
Middleton donned a sculptural white hat by favourite milliner Jane Corbett to the Order
of the Garter, with a matching white coat dress by Alexander McQueen.
3. Milliner: Jane Corbett
Style Score: 6/10
While we love the Erdem dress the Duchess wore to the Trooping of the Colour (the Queen
s birthday celebration), we feel like it could have been paired with a more pared-down,
minimal topper for less of a mumsy-feel.
4.Milliner: Sylvia Fletcher for John Lock and Company
Style Score: 8/10
The Duchess paired this red headpiece with a Alexander McQueen dress of the same hue for
the Queens Diamond Jubilee. We love the brilliant red-on-red, but could do without the
flora and faunait makes an otherwise modern ensemble stuffy.
5. Milliner: Rachel Trevor-Morgan
Style Score: 7/10
This look from the Queens Diamond Jubilee celebrations marks what we believe to be the
Duchess first hat repeat, wearing a navy satin hat with a Missoni coat, which weve
also seen before.
6. Milliner: Jane Taylor Millinery
Style Score: 10/10
Middleton showed her fondness for tailored Alexander McQueen and fascinators again during
the Diamond Jubilee. Here we saw the Duchess in a pitch-perfect lacy peach frock and a
matching hat with netting.
7. Milliner: Philip Somerville
Style Score: 5/10
Worn to the ceremony marking Prince Williams joining of the Order of the Garter, were
not too crazy about this all-navy ensemble. But we can look past it, given that the pre-
engagment Kate wasnt yet privvy to the wonders of McQueen. And while we feel that this
look falls flat, that didnt stop this hat being auctioned off for over $5,000.
8. Milliner: Sylvia Fletcher for Lock & Co
Style Score: 10/10
Oh, Canada! It almost goes without saying that this brilliant red maple leaf fascinator,
worn on Canada Day during the couples 2011 royal tour, gets our utmost approval.
9. Milliner: Whiteley
Style Score: 7/10
To the wedding of Williams cousin, Emily McCorquodale, the Duchess went for head-to-toe
dove grey, topped off by a hat with a sculptural swirl by Whiteley.
Kate Middleton has been photographed in many outfits wearing a simple necklace or a long
strand of beads or pearls, but the most impressive accessory is the topper, we wil
continue to talk about her rooyal hats. Please follow persun.us for more information.
