By the year 1700 Ayutthaya became one of the biggest cities of the world having total 1 million inhabitants. During 1767 this city got destroyed by Burmese army.

This caused the collapse of its kingdom. This city got re-founded few kilometers towards the east of ruins that currently form Ayutthaya historical park. The remains here are mostly temples or palaces, as these just were the buildings created from stone that time.
