subject: Solve The Problem Of Power With Home Energy Assessment [print this page]

Shortage of power and depletion of energy sources have made people think seriously towards saving energy. The government is giving emphasis on using renewable source of energy more as they are eco friendly. However, no efforts can be successful unless home energy assessment is done. Assessments can be called by various names such as Comprehensive Home Assessment, Home performance Assessment, Energy Audit etc. Home energy saving proves to be very helpful in the reduction of energy consumption. This in turn also reduces environmental pollution as power is still generated using coal (thermal power) to a large extent.

It is highly recommended that home energy assessment or energy audit is conducted in every household. Energy audit allows people to detect the amount of energy being consumed in the house. It checks the different areas of house and can highlight the place where more energy is being used. By looking at the result one can further take necessary steps to reduce the energy consumption and make the house, energy efficient.

Cooling and heating equipments consume maximum amount of energy that any house uses. Therefore, it is advisable to clean these equipments from time to time and check if there is any damage. As about 10 per cent of the total used energy is accounted to the lighting equipments, it is required that one should check the wattage of the bulbs being used. Usage of CFL bulbs can further cut down energy consumption. Solar energy can also be used by installing photovoltaic cells on the roof. This not only reduces energy consumption but it also reduces dependency on non renewable sources of energy, thus saving the environment from pollution.

Home energy assessment is not just limited to saving electricity but saving of water can also be regarded under this category. Although a major portion of Earth is covered by water, large part of the world is facing scarcity of fresh water. Therefore, it is the need of the time to save water.

Energy Star is often associated with the performance of any electrical equipment. The history of energy star dates back to 1992 when Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy in the United States created it. Home performance with Energy Star can be highly increased as computer products or kitchen appliances with Energy Star service mark consume 20 to 30 per cent less energy. The list of products with Energy Star service mark is growing everyday and it now includes almost all household electrical equipments and office equipment products.

In this era when electricity has become the necessity of every household and the conventional energy sources are depleting, it is the responsibility of everyone to show awareness towards saving energy. Energy audit and home performance with Energy Star can do a lot towards reducing energy consumption and decreasing the pollution level. Further, relying more on non conventional source of energy like solar energy and wind energy can solve the problem of power.
