In her honour the land is named as Vrindavan. . It is one the tweleve jyotitlingas and is the holiest Hindu theological site for Hindus. It is believed that the existence of older temple was from the time of Mahabhartha Era, when Pandavas are supposed to have pleased Lord Shiva by doing austerity.
Another very important site without which Char Dham yatra is incomplete is Gangotri.
It is origin of river Ganga and considered as seat of goddess Ganga. According to Hindu Mythology goddess Ganga took the form of river to absolve and exonerated the sins of king Bhagirathis ancestors. This river is known as Bhagirathi at her source and acquires the name Ganga from Devprayag.
Finally our Char Dham ends in in Yamunotri which is another site of Char Dham and is also situated in Uttrakhand. It is at an altitude of 3,293 of Garhwal Himalayas and is situated approximately 19 miles of Uttrakashi. It is source of river Yamuna. Yamunotri temple is on the western region of Garhwal Himalayas.
