subject: Paper Machine Types [print this page] The type of paper you want to produce will have a bearing on the kind of machine you will have to run. With all machines you will still have to take into account the stock preparation, water processing, the headbox and wire section, press sections and the dryer section.
For most board making applications, such as linerboard machines and fluting machines, a machine based on the principles of the Fourdrinier Machine will be ideal. These machines can be adapted to produce board with multiple plies (layers). Being able to produce a sheet of board with multiple layers allows the machine to produce multiple products, such as single ply fluting medium to a multi ply linerboard.
For tissue making, the machine is based on the Fourdrinier machine, with some technological advances added over the years. Typically, a tissue machine today will have a crescent former, this is used for improved fibre formation. The dryer section of a tissue machine is one large drying cylinder and not a complete section of drying cylinders, as would be found on a linerboard paper machine.
The stock prep. system for any paper machine will depend on the raw material being used. Stock prep. systems to process pulp would be slightly simpler than a stock prep. plant to process recycled fibre. This is due to the contaminants found in recycled fibre.
Stock preparation is the process where the raw material for making the paper or board is pulped, usually in a pulper, and then the pulp goes through a series of cleaners, pressure screens, refiners, until it is clean enough and of the correct consistency to go to the paper machine
Another area of the paper machine that is very important is the press section.
The press section removes as much water as possible from the pulp / water mix that is the paper sheet. Removing as much water here as is possible helps significantly reduce the water that has to be removed using steam further in the drying cylinders.
A quick search for used paper machinery on the internet will show that there are many of these machines available.
