subject: How Cargo Baskets Help In Oil Drilling? [print this page]

Do you know how oversize equipments and tools used in drilling oil from ocean floor are shipped to oil rigs? They are carried from shore to hundreds of miles away in high seas in cargo baskets that could carry bulk weight without bruising or damaging the expensive equipments. The baskets are made of metal that contains carbon steel and aluminum that prevents it from saline wind and moisture.

Oil firms require containers in bulk as these containers are always at work. They carry useful equipments from shore and take mud and other waste material from the oil to the shore. Oil rigs produce tons of natural and manmade waste everyday and the waste needs to be taken away so that the oil rigs could function in a clean and hygienic environment.

New cargo baskets are used for carrying machinery and safety gears for the oil rig employees and aging containers are used for taking mud from the oil rigs.In this way, one could see that an oil firm requires two set of containers one for transporting expensive material and other for taking mud and waste. Quality containers made up to DNV2.7-1/EN12079 standard could last long and give more value for money. On the other hand, substandard containers could break after a few journeys.

There are standard containers and substandard products. Former is expensive and latter is cheap. It is the oil firm managers to decide which container to buy. Managers that value quality invest in DNV2.7-1/EN12079 standard containers. Those interested in saving a few hundred dollars buy cheap containers but little do they know that cheap containers dont last long.

Oil firm managers could save money while using standard cargo baskets. They could maintain their fleet of containers in good condition. Ideally the containers should be cleaned and insulated before setting out for sea voyage. Using containers again and again without giving them any break could reduce their life. Also the oil firms should place their orders for new containers well in advance so that they dont need to shop for the containers in a hurry.

It is learnt that oil firm managers have to buy substandard products in the rush to get containers. Substandard products are readily available because they find few takers. Container manufacturers also take advantage of the urgent need of the oil firms. They offer cheap containers at affordable price instead of giving oil firms durable cargo basketsat reasonable price.
