Honda models are known for their modest, functional design, which always results in a perfectly understated beauty. Heating and A/C systems in most Hondas tend to last forever, not to mention the serious mileage records theyre known to break.
Its interesting to know what peoples favourite luxury car is, since thry can pick any kind they want in a fantasy land. When asked, some people go straight for the Ferrari; and why not? It definitely looks like something a super hero would drive. For some people their dream car is one of the big SUV boys, like Lexus or BMW. But for a lot of people (car guys and non-car guys respectively) Porsche is the ultimate fantasy. Maybe its because it looks like something out of an old movie, but it doesnt get much better than a black Porsche from the late eighties with those old-school headlights and fin on the back (a modest fin not to be confused with some of the mammoth spoilers we see on Porsches today). Whats great about the Porsche brand is that it isnt only synonymous with money, but also with style. Cool guys drive Porsches. People who choose Porsche dont care about Bluetooth and a fancy rearview camera. They care about stepping out of a Porsche, and looking as cool as the guys who did it fifty years ago.
Strictly from a marketing perspective, this company deserves heaps of respect for the impact its had on our culture. Most can recall (or at least have read about) the brands famous Lemon and Think Small campaigns of the 1950s. Boldly setting itself apart from other traditional car brands, VW made a statement about simplicity and minimalism territory yet to be explored by automakers of that time. It was eventually ranked the best campaign of the 20th century, and the VW brand continues to blaze its own distinct trail 60+ years later.
The Toyota brand has also made a pretty serious mark on our culture. Why? Because Toyota doesnt need image. Or clever marketing. Every year, Toyota is up to its headlights in best-in-class accolades. Not only does Toyota have some of the safest, most reliable cars in the world (its practically synonymous with the term family vehicle), but it has also been leading the charge environmentally, having taken many of the first, and the biggest steps in making the auto industry more sustainable.
The Cadillac brand deserves a Top Brand spot for one simple reason: It has made such an impact on us that we now use it as a general synonym for greatness. Its the Cadillac of screw drivers. The Cadillac of beers. People dont even need to know one detail about Cadillac to know that its apparently better than anything. There is also an interesting side story to the Cadillac brand, since it has been so permanently adopted by hip-hop culture. Over the last twenty years, Cadillac has not only acquired an image of greatness, but one of gangsta greatness. What other car do you picture with extreme hydraulics, rolling down the street to rap music?
Whether youre into cars or couldnt care less what you drive, chances are there is at least one car name out there that means something to you. And thats the beauty of good branding.
