subject: Ways Alcohol Can Burn Some Pounds [print this page]

While some people who want to shed weight go to the gym and exercise there are also a number of people who drink liquor in order to lose weight. However recent studies have shown that people who consume alcohol in order to slim down are more vulnerable to developing an addiction to alcohol. They can get addicted to alcohol in as early as 2 weeks since they start with this type of weight loss method. As they drink on a regular basis their tolerance for alcohol would likely increase thus causing them to consume more than their daily dose to be able to feel the effects.

Although this type of weight reduction technique is greatly discouraged by addiction treatment centers and alcohol rehabilitation some individuals still use it to lose excess weight. Some would succeed in losing a couple of pounds and stop drinking after that but other people would now prefer to feel the effects of liquor than to mind the extra weight they want to drop. The two to three glasses of liquor each day would then turn to a bottle or two each day.

Individuals who make use of this method won't acknowledge that they have an addiction. They think that they are able to quit drinking any time they wish to. Treatment centers and alcohol rehabs have proven that once a person is hooked on alcohol or any other substance it's difficult to quit on their own. They would need the help of an efficient rehabilitation program in order to overcome their addiction. Such rehab treatment programs have been proven effective in curing an early or late stage of alcohol addiction.

It is a fact that when a person is dependent on alcohol some would tend to shed weight while others would gain weight. Some alcoholics choose to drink hard liquor like whiskey, brandy, vodka, tequila and rum while some prefer cocktail mixers which contain glucose. Those who prefer hard liquor have a very good chance of losing weight while those who go with cocktail mixers and beer would likely put on weight and develop a beer belly. This is due to the fact that the body metabolizes the ethanol from alcoholic beverages first before the sugar and carbohydrates. This is why some alcoholics have a significantly high blood sugar. Beer drinkers are the most susceptible to gaining weight since beer is full or carbs which not only raises their blood sugar levels but it also gives them a beer gut.
