Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is the city shared by 3 major religions - Islam, Hindu and Buddha. While the city is relatively new, it has always been referred to as a melting pot of cultures with a large Chinese and Indian population, a huge number of British expats and, of course, the native Malays. With cultures and influence from 3 major cultures building up the city, it is not surprising that tourist find the city fascinating. In fact, Kuala Lumpur is ranked 6th most visited city in the world.

Attractions for Kids

If you are planning to visit the Malaysian capital city with your children, then you should definitely plan a visit to the Asia's Best Attraction - the Sunway lagoon theme park. Wonderful Colonial Buildings

The city was originally a mining settlement in the late 1800s where tin was discovered at the confluence of the Klang and Gombak rivers. Burned into ground twice by warring factions fighting for tin, the British colony eventually took full control by setting up police force and ordering buildings to be built using bricks instead of timber.

As a result, the area where the city was originally founded is surrounded by historical and beautiful Moorish inspired buildings such housing the Textile Museum , the KL City Gallery , the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, St Mary's Cathedral and the Royal Selangor Club .

Modern Architecture

One of the major tourist attractions in Kuala Lumpur is undoubtedly the KLCC Petronas Towers. Designed by Argentine architect Cesar Pelli and famous worldwide because it was once the world's tallest buildings, the KLCC offers an upmarket mall, an aquaria, an art gallery as well as a massive kids museum and a beautiful park at the feet of the towers.

But if you want to see Kuala Lumpur from bird eyes view, The KL Tower (also known as the Menara Kuala Lumpur) offers even better and panoramic views of the city. It also has one of the best restaurants in the area, a petting zoo, F1 racing car simulator and a pristine tropical forest path in the surrounding area.

Religious Pilgrims

Despite being a predominantly Muslim city, Kuala Lumpur Muslim residents practiced moderate view of Islam. As such, Hindu worshippers have temples all around the city with Batu Cave being one of the most favorite places to visit in Kuala Lumpur.

The cave houses Hindu god Lord Murugan at the top of the limestone hill. The 272 steps are a steep climb but the tall hilly temple is a more scary coming back down.

Those who visit Kuala Lumpur will find that the costs of good are cheap, but the weather is hot and humid throughout the year. Light clothing is always recommended, but generally air-conditioning is everywhere within the city limits. Sudden downpour is common but rains only serve to make the climate more refreshing.

In short, if you're going to South East Asia, go to Kuala Lumpur. It will serve as a grand gateway for an unforgettable vacation.
