subject: Dress For Dancing The Cancun Clubs [print this page]

. If it's the off-season, Cancun tourist fashion may sway a little to the conservative side as the over 30-crowd enjoys a tropical vacation. When it comes to the Cancun nightclubs, patrons of any age would do well to wear their most stylish threads. Read on.

There are three basic categories of party venues in Cancun: the beach, the club, and the after-party. Make sure you wear a flattering swimsuit when you decide to go to the beach for a lovely night of dancing under the sky, barefoot. Ladies, that may include a chic one-piece or a skimpy bikini, but always top it off with sunscreen and a sarong. The sarong is crucial. A sarong is a flexible piece of clothing that can be worn as a halter dress or as a skirt, and can be useful when going from beach to bar scene. Gentlemen, skip the speedos and go with a pair of board shorts. A light cotton button down shirt, worn open like a jacket, is a good way to top off the look. This is an important addition to your ensemble as it will mean you can enter a bar or restaurant that has a "no shirt, no service" policy.

These are things to be considered when thinking about what to wear for a night in the Cancun dance clubs: comfort, practicality, modesty and fashion. Good attire for women will be addressed first. You want to keep cool, but it is also important to make sure that all of your bits are covered adequately. With all those people crowded into the club, it will get hot. Clothing that is too restrictive will only make you uncomfortable. Wear something that has a pocket for your ID. Do not wear transparent clothing or anything too revealing. There will always be people out there who believe scanty clothing is an invitation for naughtiness, no matter what country you are in. Finally, be fashionable!

Gentlemen have it so much easier than women when it comes to fashion. There aren't as many 'rules' and there is greater flexibility with individual pieces of clothing. For example, the outfit we described above for the beach party, well it would work just as well for clubbing in Cancun. Alternatively, one could wear a pair of linen shorts and a nice short sleeved button down shirt with a collar. All nicely ironed, of course. Jeans are alright, but you will get too hot. Take note: sleeveless shirts or tank tops are not allowed to be worn into most Cancun clubs by male guests.
