The common written examination (CWE) is conducted for probationary officers/ management trainee positions in the 19 public sector banks in India. Based on the score, a candidate can make an application for PO posts in any of these 19 banks directly. Potential candidates must have the below mentioned eligibility criteria before they apply for the common written examination (CWE).

The candidate must have Indian citizenship.

The minimum age limit for application is 20 years and maximum is 30 years. However relaxation of upper age is given to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, other backward classes, persons with disabilities, ex-servicemen, commissioned officers, etc.

The candidate needs to have a degree in any subject from an esteemed university or an equivalent qualification.

For 2012 common written examination, those who have not completed their degree course as on July 1, 2012, cannot apply for the exam.

If a candidate's result has been declared on or before July 1, 2011 and has procured the mark sheet or provisional certificate, one is completely eligible to apply.

Those who are in the final year of their college can apply for the exam in its next phase as this exam is conducted twice a year.

The banks do not conduct any other test for PO recruitment. Those who get minimum qualifying marks in this exam are given scorecards which are valid for a year. Each of the 19 banks declares their PO post vacancies along with the eligibility and test score, etc. Those having the declared score along with eligibility can apply. The banks then shortlist candidates for group discussion round and final interview.

One can consult books of previous years to understand the nature of exam questions. Internet is another great source of information for popular books on this kind of bank examinations.

In case one is applying online, the candidate can modify the details within 2 days after he/she has registered.

After common PO exam 2012, a common test for clerk jobs in banks is declared. The age eligibility for clerical post is between 18 to 28 years. Besides, the candidate must be a citizen of India. The person also needs to complete his class XII examination or must have a degree from a recognized university. On the basis of written test followed by a personal interview round, a person is recruited to the post of a clerk in bank.
