What is semi permanent makeup?
Semi permanent makeup is a simple procedure of implanting colour into the skin - borrowing a technique from tattooing. A wide range of colours are available to choose from, and your practitioner should be able to guide you as to the shades that best suit you.
It can normally be applied to eyebrows, top eyeliner, bottom eyeliner, lipliner and full lip colour.
How Does It Work?
The way semi permanent makeup works is via the use of specialised instruments to place the colour through the outermost layer of the skin- the epidermis and into the dermis- the deeper layers. Because the epidermis is always shedding and renewing itself, the colour will be visible through a thin veil of skin. When the procedure is completed, the colour will appear darker and more defined than the final result. This is because the colour is located in both the epidermis and the dermis. The colour in the top layer will flake off during the healing process.
How Long Will It Last?
You will find that the semi-permanent pigment colour will fade after the first treatment and will therefore require a top-up, minimum 4-6 weeks after. This top up will not require extra payment, and then your semi permanent makeup should last up to 18 months, depending on your skin type, environment and the colours used.
Safety Considerations
* You will be given an allergy test prior to the application of the semi permanent make up.
* Strict hygiene is applied for the procedure with sterilisation of equipment and individual sterile cartridges for every client.
* No chemicals are used in the process.
* Always make sure that the beauty salon has a professionally trained technician to carry out the work.
Will it hurt?
Topical anaesthetics have been developed especially for semi permanent eyebrow, eyeliner and lip colour procedures. These creams and gels are applied to the desired area 20-30 minutes before the procedure to ensure you experience minimal discomfort. Generally the procedures are slightly uncomfortable, and clients have said to feel a scratching sensation due to the specialized equipment used. However the eyebrow and eyeliner procedures can be done fairly quickly, which leaves the lip procedure the most uncomfortable. Also a separate anesthetic is used throughout the procedure to further decrease any discomfort.
Am I a good candidate for semi-permanent make-up?
Almost everyone can benefit from the use of semi-permanent make-up. Whether you just want to save time in the mornings, you're tired of drawing in your own eyebrows unevenly or having your eye/lip liner smudge by lunchtime, you will find a semi permanent make a great time saver and have a consistent and professional, long lasting result. In addition, semi-permanent make-up can also be used as a means to improve your appearance when everyday make-up is a difficult or insufficient alternative. Examples of reasons for this include:
1. Sensitive skin or allergies
2. If you wear glasses or contact lenses or have had laser eye surgery
3. Arthritis or painful hands
4. Ageing changes in brows, lips, eyes
5. Active, outdoor lifestyles - an end to make up runs.
6. Hair loss from alopecia, chemotherapy, accidents, burns or cosmetic surgery.
7. Colour correction. Scar camouflage, breast areola loss, cleft lip and vitiligo
Semi permanent make up treatments are available for both men and women. The overall effect can be subtle or very striking, depending on your requirements. You should consult with Stephanie to decide what's right for your needs.
