A fabric structure is a membrane which is kept in a pressurised tension stage. Fabric structures thus provide the users with different in numerousverities of designs. White membrane fabric structures have high reflectivity and thus can be used as a very good alternative to polycarbonates and glass. Collared fabric structures are also available but have high high absorptions which results in reradiating effect.

Fabric structures are designed in such a way that they bear both the roof and cladding in one element. Therefore the structural element is of great importance for the structural aesthetic appearance. Fabric structures offer lot of advantages, namely:

1.As discussed earlier the white collared fabric structures are capable of transmitting the diffused light but with a reduced heat load. Thus fabric structures can replace the usage of glass structures.

2.Fabric structures have low maintenance costs as compared to that of glass structures.

3.Being a factory made object, that is a precast member it reduces the in site hindrances.

4.More over fabric structures are specially designed to be water proof and weather proof.

5.Membranes are factory welded into a single skinned member which helps in reducing the number of joints.

6.It offers large span with more coverage which facilities easy finishing of the work.

7.Fabric structures are designed for rapid work construction purposes.

One must consider various factors like capital or money availability, long term or short term project concerns, Fire resistance ratings required, amount of lighting required, Aesthetics and functions of fabric structures before the start construction. Cost is one of the basic factor that is to be considered beforedoing any activity. Of course, it can be guaranteed that fabric structures are cost efficient and durable when compared to other structures such as glass and polycarbonates.
