subject: Sap Business One Internationally Faq Or Implementing Erp For Your Overseas Subsidiary [print this page] This paper is written in FAQ style for easy reading. The objective here is to give you directions in picking accounting software for your subsidiary in such regions as Brazil, Russia or China and we are discussing such terms as software localization, SPED, Russian chart of accounts, etc. This paper is not technical but rather introduction level one. Questions are collected by our sales team as well as customer support call center:
Q. We are using Microsoft Dynamics GP in our headquarters in Chicago. Why dont we just deploy it for our branch in Sao Paulo Brazil? We have spare licenses and Microsoft gives us good technical support
A. GP is not localized in the sense of having Brazilian Portuguese client interface and supporting tax codes and SPED (Public Digital Bookkeeping). At this time Microsoft Business Solution in SP recommends Dynamics AX but the price level is higher and you cannot reuse your Great Plains licenses. We will talk about ERP localization below
Q. What does it mean that accounting software is not localized in specific country? There are tax tables that could be manually updated. Plus user interface could be translated (maybe several most popular forms) in foreign language
A. International business environment is more challenging. There are various taxation methods: Sales Tax, VAT, GST, etc. Plus applications developed here in the United States often restricted to ASCII table and do not necessary support Unicode (which is needed in order to enable hieroglyph based alphabets such as Chinese, Japanese or Korean)
Q. Does SAP B1 support Unicode?
A. Yes it does and Chinese interface for example could be assigned to named user by defaults
Q. Lets talk about Russia as we acquired mining facility in Siberia. Does Business One do the job there?
A. In RF there is complicated tax reporting where you typically choose the option to report GL Balance based on government recommended chart of accounts. For example account twenty is main production. Additional complication is constantly changing reporting instructions. SAP BO could be used as ERP application with Russian interface with tandem with 1C Accounting where tax agency reporting is printed out
Q. We are public corporation and one of the requirements is internal audit. How do we provide dataset to our internal auditors for subsidiaries in Eastern Europe, Russia, China and Brazil?
A. Consider the following technology. You are hosting all the company databases on one server in your US headquarters. You are opening client interface via Citrix to international users. And internal auditors have access to the branch accounting records by switching language from Chinese to American English
