Do you consider yourself a travel expert? Do you follow your own travel plan when planning on traveling? If so, could it use some enhancing? Are you prepared in the event of an emergency, or something else unexpected? If you are having major vacation anxiety, then read on for some settling advice.

Research local laws and customs prior to traveling. Some behavior you find normal may be offensive or even illegal in another country. Be respectful of civilians and authorities in your destination, and always behave in a manner that represents you and your country well.

It is not always necessary to travel to far flung places to enjoy a vacation get-away. You may enjoy yourself right around your home or in a neighboring state. You will spend less money traveling if you stick close to home and support the local economy. You may find surprising, fun places right in your own area.

Take an voltage converter or electrical adapter with you when you travel to areas with different electric systems. You can get one inexpensively from an electronics store. Purchasing one near an airport or hotel can be extremely expensive.

Before you travel, make a list of what you will pack. Create this list either a few months to a week before your trip. This can especially help you if you are in a rush to pack, as it will prevent you forgetting things or including unnecessary items.

If you are going on a road trip, switch drivers often. If you tend to drive to exhaustion, you'll be apt to fall asleep when in the passenger seat. This leaves the new driver without a companion to act as a second pair of eyes. You should switch drivers to avoid getting exhausted. Switch drivers every few hours to give both time to rest. That way neither driver will run the risk of falling asleep at the wheel.

Don't go to sleep before 8pm local time if you are adjusting to a different time zone. You'll be tired that day, but staying up will force you to adjust to the new time zone. Sleeping when you get tired will just lengthen the adjustment time period. Getting over jet lag quicker will give you more time to enjoy your vacation.

To avoid issues when flying with gifts, never wrap your presents. The TSA inspects some gifts, so by leaving them unwrapped, you avoid having your efforts destroyed before the package is presented to its recipient. Instead, wait until you get to your destination to wrap the gift.

You can survive a red-eye flight using sleeping pills. People often have difficulty sleeping on planes due to small spaces, aircraft noises, and fellow passengers. To get through your flight as painless as possible, take a sleeping pill to help ensure you can fall asleep. Don't take these prior to takeoff, as there may be a delay or problem that requires a return.

The economy is killing your vacation plans! But wait, don't cancel that vacation just yet. Use these ideas to take a vacation without breaking the bank.
