subject: Internet Service Providers - Why They Need You More Than You Need Them [print this page]

Here is a brief list of why internet service providers need you more than you them.

1.Competition: There is just so much competition in the market that the tech providers market is saturated. If you look carefully you will find the best deal. Internet service providers need you more than you need them simply because if they dont satisfy your needs, you will shift to a competitor.

2.Uniformity of technology: Everyone is keeping with the changed times and new technologies. It was cable first, then dish TV, and then fiber optics. If some new innovation takes place, you can be sure that all service providers will do their best to capture it as soon as they can, for no one wants to be left behind. All of this stems, of course, from competition. But it is worthwhile to note that because everyone is offering the same technology, you dont need to be overly wowed by their claims of best speeds etc. It is the other stuff that matters. In fact, it is because they all use the same technology why they need you more than you need them. So keep a weather eye out for all the claims of a provider. Learn to sift the wheat from the chaff, and dont get unduly impressed. Do your research.

3.Similar products and services: Nearly all service providers offer you the same kinds of service. Everyone is claiming to have the best speeds, or the widest choice of channels or the greatest clarity in voice. Its true that they may all perhaps actually deliver on these, but the point is they need you more than you need them because they offer similar products. How they can distinguish themselves from one another is by giving offers, freebies, discounts, packages, exceptional customer service, better menu options, better billing options, rewards for customers who recommend others, rewards and discounts for existent customers, and other such incentives. Ensuring that they are making a personal statement amidst all this homogeneity is perhaps one of the only ways they can put themselves apart from one another.

A lot of companies have some exceptional packages, such as Comcast, which do the job of distinction from other companies in notable manners. It is always worthwhile to do your research about different providers to note the minor details of their offerings to see which suits you the best. It may be that in those minor details you find something that truly stands out and makes sense to you most as a consumer.

4.Customer reviews count: In todays marketing climate, there is no better selling agent than the customer himself. The ways people interact with each other, with family, friends, and even utter strangers has changed phenomenally with the popularity of social networking forums, blogs, Facebook, online journals etc. Its a psychological tendency to believe the experience of the other person and take it as a gospel truth, especially if it is a review about a product or service. People will readily believe what customers say about a specific product, and customer reviews are all-important these days.

Candid opinions are given online by real people who can be contacted personally to authenticate that the opinion they have stated is their own. For this reason, the internet service provider you have will probably do its best to ensure you are satisfied. It is very difficult and takes several years to build a reputation, but to watch it fall is a matter of seconds. No internet service provider will want to attract the wrath of its customers by giving inferior quality products, or fooling them with twisted contracts, inconvenience of service or hidden costs. Customers today are more alert and consumer courts are an active part of the legal machinery to protect the consumer further.
