subject: Modern Vs Historical [print this page]

You dont have to be a fan of TVs The Only Way is Essex or even Made in Chelsea to want to change the look of your hair. The eighties brought us the perm, which has thankfully died something of a cultural death; now we have hair extensions and a broad range of them too. Theres no need to spend months on end growing your hair out now whenever you feel like adding some romantic lengths to your locks.

You may think that they are a very recent invention, but in fact there is historical evidence that Queen Cleopatra and some of her male and female subjects, wore hair adornments that bear some resemblance to modern day hair extensions. So many stylish celebrities wear hair extensions these days that it is becoming an increasingly popular procedure among women from all walks of life.

If you are a fan of reality TV, it may interest you to know that The Only Way is Essex star Sam Faiers is an ambassador for specialist hair extensions and she is helping to promote her own line of clip in hair extensions. Singer Jessica Simpson has also produced her own line of hair extensions and accessories, including those useful clip in ones. Celebrity hairdresser Paul Haskell, who works for Dancing on Ice, has created a special range of real hair extensions that are available to buy online.

You may know all about the more permanent forms of hair extensions, which involve some considerable time spent in a salon chair. Today, there is no need to go through this process, as there are now several more short term alternatives. Clip in hair extensions are exceptionally easy to use, and are perfect for short term wear: ideally for a single day or a night.

There are also flip in hair extensions, where a wire hairpiece is placed behind the fringe line and is then pushed down over the head. The hair is then split over the ears and the wearers hair is then combed over the wire using a tail comb. The flip-In hair is attached to the head and not to the hair and therefore does not damage it in anyway; instead, it fits snugly around the shape of your head. There are also halo extensions, which work in a very similar way. All these will not damage your own hair in any way, and are completely safe to use at home.
