subject: Reinforcing The Values Of The Lds Young Women Through Music [print this page]

The role of LDS Young Women is to give girls from 12-17 a healthy and involved path through life through religion. There are 8 values that are taught that help them develop into powerful and stable young women. Weekly meetings and special events often call for the use of tools such as activities and music. There are many different songs and musicians that are used for this purpose, and every year there is an LDS song that is adopted as their theme.

Most people would describe music as one of the most central elements of their developing life. It can include words of hope, encouragement or simply provide a platform of experience for someone to identify with. By the same token it can also give out the wrong message, teach bad practices or provide a negative role model. This is why there is special LDS Young Women music that can gently direct listeners on a particular path.

One of the aspects of this music is that it has messages within the verses that believers can listen to and understand. Conventional religious song can seem repetitive and boring, which is why LDS Young Women songs try to stay fresh and on point in a recognizable way. There are also messages of hope, as stories of the strength and benefits of belief are repeated throughout many of the songs. The use of these songs is often to brighten a gloomy moment in a follower's life or simply letting them know that their path is right.

LDS Young Women music is produced so that the CDs and MP3s can be purchased in bulk. This makes it more cost-effective to distribute to groups, and use for Mutual meetings and other gatherings. Many of the artists also use their music to create activity ideas which can reinforce the messages within the songs in a good way. This is what makes the Latter Day Saints group so likable for younger members, as it allows them to hear things in a way that makes sense to them.

Young Women are taught to believe in themselves to make the right decisions. This includes teaching them the right beliefs to have, showing them their skills and reassuring them about the world. A lot of weight is put on teaching using music. LDS Young Women music producers need the ability to give all of these messages to their followers while still creating a beautiful piece of music.
