subject: Public Relations Companies Shine At Recent Stevie Awards Event [print this page]

Public relations companies of all sizes and specialties are gaining in importance as demonstrated by the recent Stevie Awards. Also known as The American Business Awards, the Stevies are a way of recognizing greatness and performance.

A number of public relations companies took home multiple awards this year. Some of the awards given to public relations companies included Public Relations Agency of the Year. Other categories included Management, Company, Product, Department, Team & Individual Categories; Management Awards Categories; Company / Organization Awards Categories; Corporate Communications, Investor Relations, & Public Relations Awards Categories; Customer Service Awards Categories; Human Resources Awards Categories;

Information Technology Awards Categories; Marketing Awards Categories; New Product Awards Categories; and Support Awards Categories.

Clearly, the importance of public relations companies is growing this is particularly noteworthy as companies are seeking ways in which to maximize their marketing budgets through earned media as opposed to advertising as well as by harnessing the power of social media While public relations companies are clearly adept at securing earned media opportunities for their clients, public relations companies have also demonstrated a mastery over social media. In fact many public relations companies have established separate divisions or units to oversee their forays into the world of social media.

Another trend impacting Public Relations Companies is the need for specialization. In addition to social media, many public relations companies are choosing to specialize in investor relations, crisis communications, health, financial services, consumer products, travel and tourism the list is endless. However, there are a number of public relations companies that can be classified as generalists these particular public relations companies do not have a particular area of specialization and generally will work for a large variety of clients.

Of course, the debate will continue to rage for years to come as to what approach is better: public relations companies with clearly defined specializations or companies that are generalists. Todays complex world demands public relations companies with deep industry knowledge as well as well established media contacts within those areas of specialization. We expect that the shift will continue to public relations companies with proven track records in selected areas of specialization.
