subject: Working From Home [print this page] I've just gone and got myself a cup of coffee, wandered outside, sat down in the garden, (it's actually stopped raining in this part of the UK) and am ready to start my day's work. Or should I say my few hours work for the day. The laptop's all fired up and rearing to go so I'll begin.
An awful lot of people are under the impression, quite wrongly I might add, that working from home means you don't have to work at all, or at the very most an hour or so a week will see endless streams of money rolling into your bank account.
I must confess that this was also my impression of working from home when I first set out on my journey in the world of internet marketing.
How wrong I was, I remember it quite well, I looked at ClickBank, picked out a product that seemed to paying out fantastic commissions, sent out a few emails to addresses obtained from a free safe list site and sat back and thought "that was easy, I'll be rich in a few days".
At first I checked my click bank account every few hours, then every day, then every other day and finally once a week. Every time I checked, I found my account was the same, a great big, fat ZERO.
I stopped and thought about it and decided I must be doing something wrong!
How on earth was I expecting to make a living by plonking a few keys on my keyboard, pressing enter and waiting for the bank to fill up. What a fool!.
That's what happens when you take notice of things you see on the internet. You know, buy my product, click the mouse eight times and hey presto!, instant millionaire.
Now don't get me wrong, I find working from home very enjoyable. Yes, it's right, you can work when you like, stop when you like, go out when you like and anything else you want when you like.
But, and it's a great big but, working from home in Internet Marketing is no different to anything else, you only get back what you put in, reap what you sow or any of the other sayings that all mean the same. If you are only prepared to work a few minutes a week then you will only get the equivalent to a few minutes wages, not a lot.
I know from bitter experience that doing a little reaps a little. If you want to earn a lot of money then you have to work a lot of hours, I don't mean physical, I mean you have to forget the ideal that you are going to be rich spending an hour or so a week on your computer, you'll fail.
Internet Marketing requires a lot of time and patience. You need to plan your week or your day properly. I'm pretty good in the morning, so I usually get up about six, have a cup of coffee, watch the news channel for an hour or so and then get down to working. I stick at it for two or three hours and then walk to the local shop and buy a newspaper, go back home and have another cup of coffee and read the newspaper.
Next I decide what needs doing, this usually depends on the weather, good weather and its either work in the garden or out in the Forest bike riding for a few hours. Rain usually means a trip out in the car or catch up with anything that requires fixing in the house.
Late afternoon its back to the computer for a few more hours before an evening meal. I then quite often spend another few hours before bed, either writing articles or blog posts.
Even when I'm out on the bike or walking or driving, I'm still thinking about my business, new content for the blog or subjects for a new article.
Yes, working from home is brilliant, but don't forget to be successful at internet marketing you really do need to focus on your business.
Don't forget, this is the way I go about my own internet marketing business, you don't have to do exactly the same. I know some marketers who spend ten hours a day four days a week and then have three complete days off, you will just have to experiment and find out what works best for you.
