subject: Desire Is The Key To Success [print this page] How is it that some people manage to come from nothing and become multi millionaires while others struggle to pay for the basics in life? What allows some people to maintain a fit and healthy body while others put on weight and develop healt problems due to lack of exercise and the wrong diet? Find out why is it that some people succeed while others fail?
The path to success may require many steps, and some of them will be critical. It doesn't matter if it's going to be a long journey or a short one, there is always going to be a first step.
It all starts with desire.
In order to make something change, to achieve something, to have something, to be something, you first have to want it.
The key word there is WANT
Many people that come to me have been struggling to achieve something in their life. Sometimes it's success at work, sometimes it's about relationships, sometimes it's about their own health. Whoever they are, and whatever they are trying to achieve, they are all having problems making it actually happen..
I always try to understand if they want what they are trying to achieve. I mean really want it.
Sometimes I hear things like
"I should lose some weight."
"I need to get a promotion."
Do these sound like desire?
Sometimes when we dig into this I find that it's all about pleasing someone else, or living up to someone elses expectations.
"my family are worried about my diet and health."
"My sister (brother, friend, cousin) is a senior manager and I'm stuck in a junior role."
True success comes when you have a passion for what you are trying to achieve. If you want it for YOU and not for someone else.
Far be it from me to say that you shouldn't give up smoking, or lead a more active lifestyle, or do everything you can to get a better job. What I am saying is that it's important to know that it is what YOU want.
If you're struggling to achieve something then consider carefully what it is you really want.
If you find that you don't really want what you've been aiming for then there are two options open to you.
You may want to actually change what you are aiming for, that's one option.
Take your career. If you are trying to get a promotion, but you actually hate the career you're in, then it's pretty unlikely that you will have the motivation to do the things that you need to do in order to get promoted. So maybe the answer is to change your career and find something that you really love doing.
The second option is to find something about the outcome that you really want and desire.
In order to lose weight you need to commit to taking certain steps, (basically eating less and exercising more) If you're only doing this to please someone else, or because someone else is pushing you to, then you're not going to have the strongest motivation to succeed. So maybe you need to find out what the benfits are to YOU in losing weight until you find something that you really want.
One of the challenges is that it can be difficult to identify what you genuinely want, particular if you have spent years being focusing on your responsibilities and worrying about what you 'need' to do.
Disovering your life purposeis not just about the long term, far future. It's also about making changes now that start to align your life with that purpose.
