subject: 4 Requirements To Achieve The Iso 9001 [print this page]

The ISO 9001 is an internationally recognised standard for quality management systems. The International Organisation for Standardisation created the certification to incorporate laws and regulations from all over the world, allowing businesses to adapt to the international market more easily. The regulations concerning quality management systems can often be confusing and there is a whole range to deal with. By going through the qualification process for the ISO 9001, businesses will be guided through the jungle of laws and helped to adapt their business. There are some categories for requirements that you will need to follow up to gain the certification.

First of all there are requirements to management. This means that the business must demonstrate clearly that it is committed to the quality management system that is being implemented or improved upon. If the business is not fully committed the money spent on the certification will be a waste and it will make no impact. However, if the management of the business is actively involved and communicate the importance of quality to the employees that are customer facing in particular, it can bring about great benefits to the business and customers. It is important that the business sets itself some objectives and work towards them to continuously improve the quality management systems.

The second category of requirements is related to resources. It is important that the business allocates the right amount of resources for the certification process to run smoothly as well as maintaining the changes made to achieve the certificate later on. There will be a need to allocate a certain amount of money to move the project forward and to maintain it. However, most of the businesses who get an ISO 9001 report that they see a return on their investment fairly quickly after they have implemented all the necessary changes. It will also be necessary to allocate some time and personnel to train all staff in the new systems and processes.

The third category of requirements is related to products and services. To sum this category up it means that the business must take a thorough look at their customer facing processes and ensure that their clients are taken care of every step of the way.

The last category of requirements for the ISO 9001 ties in with all the above points and includes requirements to analysis and improvement. This means that the business will look at their quality management systems continuously, and make every effort to maintain the standard achieved when being awarded the certification. This will also make the annual audit easier and allow the business to keep their certification.
